Russian Lawmaker Advocates for Legalizing Domestic Crypto Exchanges to Combat Fraud
Russian officials are pushing for cryptocurrency regulation to address rising fraud, with a new draft law set for parliamentary review next spring. Anton Gorelkin, a key lawmaker, emphasized the need to legalize domestic crypto exchanges, arguing that fraudulent schemes are exploiting foreign platforms to launder money.
Gorelkin highlighted cases where Belarusian exchanges were used to defraud Russian citizens, complicating law enforcement efforts. "This is precisely why it is necessary to regulate crypto exchanges and create conditions for them to operate legally in Russia," he stated. The Central Bank of Russia's recent regulatory concept includes a 300,000 ruble threshold for crypto transactions.
